Good demand from exporters lifts prices at Kochi tea sale

GOOD general demand especially from exporters buoyed up the price of dust tea at the Kochi tea auction. High-priced CTC varieties were dearer by Rs 2-3, while medium CTC were quoting Rs 4-5 higher. Below medium orthodox and high grown dust tea were also quoting higher.

There was 10,15,000 kg dust tea on offer at the auction. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 58-70; medium CTC ranged between Rs 50-57, while below medium were quoting between Rs 42-48. High grown BOPD realised Rs 130, while there was no quotation for medium BOPD. Secondaries were quoting between Rs 33-35 and residuals at Rs 32-33.

Good general demand ensured that the prices of leaf tea remained firm at the Kochi auction. CTC varieties were higher by Rs 4-5, pushed up by an overall demand by the exporters. There was 4,87,000 kg of tea on offer at the auction.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched between Rs 57-75, medium orthodox ranged between Rs 38-45 and plain orthodox were quoting between Rs 35-38. Best CTC leaf varieties ranged between Rs 48-50, while medium CTC commanded between Rs 43-47.

In the dust segment, top prices were commanded by Kodanad BOPD at Rs 130, Pasuparai FD at Rs 87 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 82. While in the leaf segment, top prices were commanded by Quinshola FOP at Rs 197, Chamaraj OP at Rs 121 and Kodanad BOPF at Rs 112.
