Hyderabad , Feb. 12

A GLOBAL biotechnology business centre aimed at imparting training future leaders is on the anvil at the University of Hyderabad.

A letter of intent to this effect was exchanged by Mr V. Venkataramana of the University of Hyderabad and Mr Gurinder Shahi of the University of Southern California on the concluding day of BioAsia 2006.

The Director of Department of Biotechnology, Dr A. Ashol, said BioAsia 2006 achieved its objective of providing interactive platform for academia, bio-entrepreneurs, policymakers, scientists and students while strengthening the linkage between academia, industry, research and the Government.

More than 60 scientists and business leaders converged here and exchanged views on issues relating to bio-fuels, clinical trails, investing opportunities in biotech, and importantly venture capital funding.

Dr Gubtaka Reddy, of the Department of Molecular Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Centre, Memphis, was conferred the Genome Valley excellence award for his outstanding contribution in the field of biotechnology.
