Farm workers plucking weeds on a groundnut farm at Ellapetty near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Due to rains during October-November, the area under groundnut in the country has declined to 6.86 lakh hectares during the current rabi season from 7.13 lakh hectares last year.

However, kharif groundnut production has been estimated at 79 lakh tonnes against 67 lakh tonnes last year.
