Chennai , Feb. 13

PTC, the US-based product development company, sees an increased presence for its software and research and development in India, according to a company official.

Out of its 42,000 customers, 1,500 are in India and the number is growing fast, said Mr James Heppelmann, Chief Product Officer, PTC.

In 2005, the company added 200 customers, both small and large, in India. It is likely to see more in the coming years.

There is a lot of interest in the automotive industry. The company's software helps companies create and manage product designs and large drawings.

Indian companies such as Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro and TVS use the company's software, said Mr Heppelmann.

Accoroding to him, India is critical for the company's research and development. Out of 4,000 employees, 650 are in its Pune centre, and a lot of them are in R&D. In 2002, the company had only 280 employees, and last year it recruited about 150 employees, he said.

The company is organising its annual user conference in Chennai and Pune. Over 800 of its customers from India and abroad are expected to attend. The company will roll out Arbotext, a recently acquired solution, in the event, he said.
