Meet to discuss issues concerning Mangalore Port

THE Mangalore Custom House Agents' Association will conduct an interactive meeting on `New Mangalore Port: Yesterday, today and tomorrow' in Mangalore on February 15.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr Philip C.C., President of the association, said that officials from New Mangalore Port, departments of Customs and Railways, Airports Authority of India, and representatives from Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) would attend the meeting.

The meeting will discuss the issues such as non-utilisation of New Mangalore Port by the exporters and importers in Karnataka, he said.

Apart from this, the meeting will also discuss the facilities, which can be provided by the port and Customs, for attracting more general and container cargos.

He claimed that for the first time a programme of this magnitude is being conducted where the officials of the departments concerned are coming together on a single platform to discuss the problems and probabilities of developing New Mangalore Port.

Mr Philip said that the meeting would also discuss the delay in opening Mangalore-Bangalore railway line for cargo and passenger traffic, and in declaring Mangalore airport as an international airport.

He said that Ms Jasdeep Singh, Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore; Mr P. Tamil Vanan, Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust; Dr John Joseph, Commissioner of Central Excise (Appeals); Mr V. Rajagopalan, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, Palghat Division; Dr Anup Dayanand, Senior Divisional Operating Manager, South Western Railway, Mysore Division; Mr M.R. Vasudeva, Airport Director, Mangalore; and Mr A. Srinivasa Rao, KCCI President, would participate in the meeting.
