Trade & Labour Unions Air Sahara cancels 12 flights as pilots continue to report sick Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 13 THE normal operations of Air Sahara continued to be disrupted for the second consecutive day on Monday due to an agitation by a section of the airline pilots. The airline was forced to cancel 12 flights across its route network on Monday as 6-8 pilots reported sick for the second day, official sources said. On the first day of the agitation, the airline cancelled 30 flights as 30 pilots reported sick. The pilots are said to be seeking an assurance on protection of their seniority and pay packages when Air Sahara ceases to exist and their employment transfers to Jet Airways. While there was no official word on the exact cause of the agitation, sources indicated that pilots of Air Sahara are among the best paid in the market and, therefore, wanted an assurance on salary protection in the new entity. Sources said that Air Sahara pilot's monthly pay packet is Rs 1,00,000 more than what Jet pays its pilots. The Head of Air Sahara, Mr Seemanto Roy, was in talks with the pilots. Last month, Jet Airways acquired Air Sahara for $500 million. On Monday, the airline cancelled several flights including the Hyderabad-Delhi, Delhi-Pune-Delhi, Delhi-Jammu-Delhi and all the three daily flights between Delhi and Kolkata. In addition, the airline also did not operate the Delhi-Singapore flight. "The passengers booked on the cancelled flights have been flown to their destinations by other airlines," an airline spokesperson said.
