Spot rubber gains marginally

SPOT rubber gained marginally on covering at lower levels. A partial recovery in international indices kept the covering groups and purchase agents slightly active throughout the session. Major manufacturers were also reported to be buyers on sheet rubber.

Most of the players preferred to avoid fresh commitments in an over speculative and fluctuating market. Sheet rubber moved up to Rs 79 a kg from Rs 78 and Rs 78.50 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi.

NMCE March contract closed at Rs 81.84 (80.15), April at Rs 83.90 (82.12) and May at Rs 85.90 (84.28) per kg for RSS 4. The April contract for RSS 4 was traded at Rs 84.50 against Rs 82.45 a kg on MCX.

The March futures for RSS 3 improved to 242 yen (Rs 91.00) against 239 yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade closed at Rs 90.78 against Rs 89.91 a kg at Bangkok spot.

Physical prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 79 (78); RSS-5: Rs 78 (77) ungraded: Rs 77 (75.50); ISNR 20: Rs 78 (77.50); and latex 60%: Rs 56 (56).
