SpiceJet plans pact with SBI for co-branded credit card

Our Bureau

IN an effort to further enhance sales of air tickets, SpiceJet will enter into a co-branding agreement with SBI for credit cards.

"The agreement is almost ready and is being vetted by the lawyers. We hope to announce the agreement in March. It would provide a host of incentives to the holder, including allowing them to redeem their points against our tickets," a senior SpiceJet official said.

The co-branded credit cards may also be provided to travel agents to help them make booking on the Internet.

The move could substantially boost the revenues of the airline as it receives close to 80 per cent of its bookings through the Internet and about 20 per cent through call centres.

Besides, the airline is examining the option of putting small booklets of insurance companies that would have subscription forms on board the aircraft to generate additional income.

SpiceJet opened a new revenue stream two months back when it started accepting on-board couriers.

"The decision has helped the airline as we have been able to generate income of over Rs 50 lakh since the scheme was launched," airline officials said.

The airline, which started flying in May last year, has flown more than a million passengers since.
