BANGALORE: A spurt in consumption of bakery products has prompted bakery ingredient company AB Mauri India to strengthen its presence by launching new products.

The company achieved a turnover of Rs 100 crore in September-August 2005 as against Rs 80 crore in the previous year. AB Mauri began its operations 10 years ago with modest sales of Rs 17 crore. Announcing the launch of new products, which included multi-grain bread concentrate to ingredients for cake improvements and speciality muffin mix concentrate, Mr Colin Simmonds, Global Market Development Director, AB Mauri (the newly created division of Associated Foods UK), said: "India ranked very high on our list of priorities." Mauri India had three production units, two in Kolkata, one each in Chiplun in Maharashtra and Sikandarabad in Uttar Pradesh. The units produce yeast and other bakery ingredients.

Mr Sri Garapati, President, South &West Asia, AB Mauri, told Business Line though India was a low consumer of bakery products, recent trend showing preference for healthier and nutritious sandwiches and burgers have given an impetus to bakery ingredients.
