NMPT handles record iron ore fines

Mangalore , Feb. 17

A RECORD quantity of 28,391 tonnes of iron ore fines was loaded to m.v. Namrun at the New Mangalore Port on February 15.

A press release by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here on Thursday that this is the highest quantity of iron ore fines handled at the port in a day, surpassing the earlier record of 27,827 tonnes loaded to m.v. Dubai Faith on December 14, 2004.

During the second shift on February 15, as many as 11,061 tonnes of iron ore fines were handled at the port. It is also the highest quantity of iron ore fines ever handled in a single shift.

Laxminarayana Mines is the exporter of the above consignment.

The release said that HML agency was the clearing and forwarding agent and stevedore for the consignment.

During the current financial year, the port has handled 47.05 lakh tonnes of iron ore fines.
