Handicraft exports poised for quantum jump: Kamal Nath

HANDICRAFT exports are poised for a quantum jump having already crossed Rs 13,032 crore during 2004-05, said the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath.

While inaugurating the 21st Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair at Greater Noida, the Minister said that the Government attaches top priority to the exports of handcrafts.

He also emphasised the need for strategic export promotion measures to increase the country's share in the world handicrafts market to four per cent from the present two per cent.

Mr Kamal Nath also indicated that the Government would support the proposal made by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts for creating a corpus fund for development of handicrafts sector in the country.
