Stock Markets Columns - Ear to the ground Zee gains on cricket buzz Rajesh Abraham
Shares of Zee Telefilms rose on Friday on buzz that the company was expected to clinch the cricket telecast. On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had given the production rights to Nimbus Communications. Nimbus is expected to announce the television channel on which the cricket matches will be telecast on March 21. Dealers said that the Zee Telefilms shares were much in demand on speculation that the company might get the telecast rights in India. Zee Telefilms shares rose by 2.67 per cent on a weak market on Friday to close at Rs 175.25 on the BSE. The counter witnessed a turnover of 20.59 lakh shares compared with two-week average volumes of 6.55 lakh. On the NSE, the share prices rose by 2.81 per cent to end at Rs 175.25.
