MR T.R. Shashidaran, Joint Director of Foreign Trade, has called for widening of the base of exporters in order to boost overall exports from Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing the valedictory of a three-day training programme on `exports' here on Friday, he said though the growth of exports from the State had been significant, it was limited to a few companies.
The programme was organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry .
"The number of players on the exports front is very small. More and more players need to take up exports seriously," he said.
Stating that increased awareness was important, he said the State targeted to double its share of exports (of India's total exports) from the present four per cent.
He said the FIEO (Federation of Indian Exporters' Organisation) is organising a training programme in Kadapa next week for the prospective exporters in that area.
Mr B. Shankar, Chairman of Foreign Trade Committee of FAPCCI, said the Chamber had taken up a State-wide campaign to spread the message.
Programmes on exports would be held in Nizamabad and Visakhapatnam.
"You can export as good as you sell it here. But only thing is, you should be cautious about quality and other important aspects. If you can't sell your products globally, you can't sell it domestically. Consumers are demanding as they have a host of options," he said.
