Apple support centre in Bangalore

APPLE Computers is setting up a technical support centre in Bangalore.

Giving this as an example, of "continued interest and confidence of this industry and Bangalore", Mr B.V. Naidu, Director, Software Technology Parks of India - Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, said, "This year, Bangalore attracted large multinational companies such as Deutsche Bank, Bearing Point, Target, Caterpillar, SanDisk, ABB, JPMorgan and Apple Computers."

An American bank and a US-based retail store are also entering the country through the State. Over 400 companies had taken expansion approvals in Bangalore, Mr Naidu added.

Mr Shankaralinge Gowda, IT and BT Secretary, said "Karnataka was the preferred destination for IT and ITES companies". "Besides Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore are attracting investors." He said Cisco had announced an investment of $800 million in a campus in Bangalore, while IBM and Intel also evinced interest in expansion in the city this financial year.

In 2004-05, Karnataka contributed Rs 27,600 crore to the country's total IT exports of Rs 78,000 crore (35 per cent). IT exports by the State in 2005-06 arepoised to cross Rs 37,000 crore Karnataka's share in the national exports is projected to grow to 37 per cent by March 2006.
