CSO puts software sector's contribution to GDP at 2.7 pc

IS there a difference between the estimates of the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) and the industry body Nasscom over the software sector's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP)?
It would appear so if one went by the CSO estimate that the software sector's contribution to GDP for 2005-06 would be about 2.7 per cent. The Nasscom had however recently in its Strategic Review for 2006 put out the software sector's (IT-ITES sector) contribution to GDP at 4.8 per cent in financial year 2005-06.
India's GDP at factor cost (at 1999-2000 prices) for the year 2005-06 had been recently estimated at Rs 25,86,587 crore by the CSO.
Official sources said that the 2.7 per cent mark include the contributions made by IT-enabled services. It however does not include the onsite services rendered abroad.
They said that Nasscom has counted the entire export value (including onsite services rendered abroad) for determining the contribution towards GDP and this could explain the difference in the estimates.
According to the Nasscom Strategic Review, the IT-ITES sector was estimated to log in revenues of $36.3 billion during 2005-06, up from $28.4 billion in 2004-05, reflecting a growth of 28 per cent. The $36.3 billion revenues for 2005-06 include total export revenue of $23.4 billion.
