Software Variety - Cinema Tata Elxsi unit played key role in Hindi blockbuster Our Bureau
Bangalore , Feb 19 THE Bangalore-based Tata Elxsi's animation division, Visual Computing Labs, played a key role in providing computer-generated imagery for the Hindi film, Rang de Basanti. From the beginning scene of a diary, where a character's grandfather writes about his experiences with Indian freedom fighters, to the oath-taking ceremony, Visual Computing's hand is seen all over the movie. The scene where four principal characters run towards a MiG-21 that seemed to just take off in front of them actually had them running towards a distant village, according to Mr Pankaj Khadpur, Creative Director. The team at Tata Elxsi worked for over two weeks to render the scene, replacing the village with a computer-generated airbase and the aircraft taking off. The lab worked with the creative team of the movie for almost a year to create all the special effects. "The creation and animation of virtual 3D CGI fighter planes, radio tower masts at the radio station in the climax, and even the fire on the candles during the oath-taking was computer-generated by our team," said Mr K. Chandrashekar, General Manager and Head, Visual Computing.
