Indo-France trade

Important changes are taking place in both the rate and pattern of India's exports. Of late, much of its growth has come from iron and steel and chemical products. By contrast, the Indo-French trade today is a mere 0.51 per cent of France's global trade. India's 300-million-strong middle-class presents an attractive proposition for the French to do business.

The French President, Mr Jacques Chirac's visit to India should be used to improve bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

T. S. Nagarajan
