New Products & Services Info-Tech - Telecommunications Reliance offers LG handset for Rs 1,500 Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 20 RELIANCE Infocomm has announced a new package offering a LG CDMA handset for as low Rs 1,500, bringing down the price by almost 40 per cent. The company has also brought down the price of the colour screen handset by 15 per cent to Rs 3,800. As per the revised package, the company will offer the base model black and white LG 2340 handset for Rs 1,500 compared to its current price of Rs 2,500. This brings the handset cost to roughly $33, making India one of the cheapest mobile phone markets in the world. Reliance will offer the colour LG handset (LG 5340), currently available for Rs 4,500, at Rs 3,800. "While the India One offer has already proved a mega success, with Reliance adding over one million subscribers in December and January each, we expect the new offer to leave a greater impact on the Indian telecom market," said a company official. "This breakthrough in handset pricing will not only force other leading handsets brands such as Nokia and Motorola to follow suit, but also propel the Indian market to a completely new and higher level of growth," the executive said The current monthly rate of acquisitions in the Indian market stands at four million new subscribers.
