Kerala Govt forms Dam Safety Authority

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has constituted a Kerala State Dam Safety Authority with a mandate to look after the security, inspection and maintenance aspects pertaining to dams and reservoirs in the State.

Former High Court Judge G. Sasidharan will be Chairman of the body, whose members include the Principal Secretary, Water Resources and Chief Engineers in charge of the following; Investigation and Design; Irrigation and Administration; Inter-State River Water; Kavery and Southern River Organisation; and Civil, Kerala State Electricity Board, among others.

This is the first time a State has set up its own Dam Safety Authority, said Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Minister for Water Resources.
