Kochi , Feb. 20

MASTER Shipyard Private Ltd, an associate company of the Kochi-based Lots Shipping, has delivered an all-purpose workboat for the Leela Hotels at Udaipur for the movement of passengers and cargo.

Built like a mini junkar at a cost of Rs 7 lakh, the boat was constructed in a record time of 12 days. The boat has the capacity to carry 12 passengers as well as 3 tonnes of cargo in narrow and shallow draft waterways.

It can drive onto its deck, a small truck carrying about 3 tonnes of materials.

The company has obtained repeated orders to construct five such boats from the hotel group. Master Shipyard has three standard designs for this craft. The Mark 1 will carry 12 passengers and 3 tonnes of materials.

The Mark II will carry 20 passengers and about 5 tonnes of cargo and the Mark III will carry 30 passengers and 8 tonnes of cargo. The vessel is of box type steel construction with corrosion resistant coatings.

The Mark 1 is propelled by a 40 BHP inboard diesel engine. The consumption of diesel for this engine is just 3 litres an hour making it the cheapest form of transport available. 60 and 80 BHP in board engines, which also gives extremely good fuel efficiency, power the Mark II and the Mark III.
