Chennai , Feb. 20

AERENS Goldsouk International, the company that owns Gold Souk, the 1.8-lakh sq ft jewellery mall in Gurgaon, will expand operations to include Delhi, Ludhiana, Kochi and Jaipur in the next two years, according to Mr G. S. Pillai, Director, Aeren Goldsouk.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr Pillai said that operations in the centre in Delhi, called `Wedding Souk', are almost complete, and will be open to the public by April this year, while the centre in Ludhiana would be inaugurated by April 2007, and the one in Kochi by August 2007.

`Wedding Souk' in Delhi will be pegged by the company as a one-stop solution for wedding shopping, with a product mix that includes jewellery, wedding clothes, fashion accessories, footwear and watches.

It will span over an area of one acre, housing over a hundred shops.

The centre in Kochi, which will be a jewellery mall, will be spread over 2.4 acres of land with over 4 lakh sq ft of shopping facility, and would include 157 shops.

An investment of about Rs 70-80 crore would go into each centre on average, he said.

He said that the company is also looking at Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, since South India forms a significant portion of the jewellery market in India.

He said that centres would be opened in these cities subject to availability of land.

The stores in the malls are either rented out or sold to individual retailers, and the centre in Gurgaon houses jewellers such as Hazoorilal Jewellers, Bholasons Jewellers, Ratan Chand Jwala Nath Jewellers, Classic Jewels, Beyond, Kiah and SR Gems and BC Sen Jewellers.
