Seminar on maritime law at Kochi

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The Indian Institute of Maritime Law (IIML) has conducted a seminar here to enlighten the members on various issues likely to be faced by them in the matter of handling, forwarding and clearing of cargo in concerned ports.

Inaugurating the seminar, Mr Justice Sirijagan of the Kerala High Court pointed out that the maritime law is at its infancy in Kochi even though Kochi has been a major port. Capt A.K. Bansal, renowned International Maritime Arbitrator led the seminar, which was attended by the members of the legal fraternity also.

Mr Joy Thattil, Secretary-General of IIML, said the Institute is modelled after the International Maritime Organisation. The Institute proposed to establish centres or chapters in different parts of the country. The next seminar of the institute will be held in Mumbai in April on the proposed Admiralty Bill.
