Telecommunications Tatas Tele for scrapping ADC Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb 21 TATA Teleservices today said the Government should do away with Access Deficit Charge (ADC) completely as it was non transparent, inefficient and uneconomical. The company, which is the second largest CDMA-based mobile player in the country, said that it was unfair that private operators were being asked to subsidise the operations of a capital rich competitor in the form of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. "Why should there be a subsidy on rural telephones at all? In fact BSNL is getting the first-mover advantage by rolling out services in the rural segment which is where the market is," said Mr Mukund Rajan, Director, Tata Teleservices. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is expected to meet on Wednesday to finalise the revised ADC regime. It is estimated that the total amount collected is more than Rs 3,000 crore of what was initially planned.
