New Delhi , Feb. 21

TURNER International India Pvt Ltd - the company in charge of sales and marketing of entertainment channels Cartoon Network and Pogo in the country - announced on Tuesday that it would soon launch two theme parks.

Designed around its kids' channels - Cartoon Network and Pogo - the parks would require an investment of around Rs 550 crore.

To be called Planet Pogo and Cartoon Network Townsville, the parks will be situated in Delhi-NCR, in Rohini and Noida respectively.

Mr Ian Diamond, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Turner Entertainment Network, Asia, said, "The 3.5-acre Planet Pogo, with eight rides and seven themed attractions, will be ready for the public this year on November 1, while the 6.8-acre Townsville with 13 theme rides is slated for opening early next year."

Though other details are yet to be disclosed, Turner has entered into an alliance with International Recreation Parks Private Ltd, (which built the Appu Ghar) for Townsville and Unitech Amusement Parks Ltd for Planet Pogo.

Both the theme parks will have 100 per cent imported theme rides and will satisfy global safety standards, Mr Diamond added.

While Planet Pogo will be located within the Adventure Island park being built in Rohini, Cartoon Network Townsville would be situated in the `Worlds of Wonder' park in Noida.

"There will be thrilling rides and both the theme parks will be world class," said Mr Jiggy George, Cartoon Network Enterprises' Director for India and South Asia.

The company has also roped in traffic consultant MVA, which manages the city traffic in Hong Kong, to regulate the visitors' flow in the theme parks, said Mr George.

Cartoon Network has theme parks in Argentina, Italy, the US and Australia.
