Ficci bid to promote animation industry

IN order to promote the animation and the gaming industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has created a separate forum.

Called the Gaming and Animation Forum, the industry body will work towards promoting public and business awareness about this industry, support technology research and development, design and implement educational and training programmes and creating a market.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Tapaas Chakravarti, Managing Director and CEO, DQ Entertainment, said, "The size of the animation industry is expected to cross the $500-million mark this year. The industry has the potential to grow to $2 billion in the next few years."

The forum has called for co-operation between the Government, educational institutes and private sector to overcome the shortage of manpower. Mr Ashish Kulkarni, Founder & CEO, ANirights Infomedia Pvt Ltd said, "It is estimated that India will require more than 30,000 trained animators and gaming professionals in the next five years. Government should aid in setting up of a centre of excellence on the lines of the IITs and IIMs for this indutry."

In order to promote the potential of the Indian gaming and animation industry, the Forum plans to take business delegations to various international markets.
