Hyderabad , Feb. 22

A 300-acre site has been earmarked for a technology special economic zone (SEZ) close to the Hardware Park and Fab City projects near Hyderabad.

The State Minister for IT, Communication and Infrastructure, Ms Sabita Reddy, said that 18 companies have been allotted land for establishing their centres near the city, and there is no time limit for establishing these units.

Answering queries in the State Assembly here on Wednesday, Ms Reddy said that 200 ancillary units would come up in the proposed Fab City project, wherein $3 billion investments have been committed. While the scope for direct employment is estimated at about 5,000 people, indirect employment through ancillary and support industries will be in the range of 1.5 lakh in the next four-five years.

Land grabbing: There are different estimates on land grabbing in and around the twin cities and the adjoining Ranga Reddy districts, which are witness to unprecedented growth and spiralling realty prices. The State Government on Wednesday gave an estimate about 3,091 acres in Ranga Reddy district. It said that efforts are on to evict land grabbers.

Speaking in the Assembly, the State Revenue Minister, Mr Dharmana Parsada Rao, said that about 1,266 acres have been encroached in Hyderabad district and 3,091 acres in 11 mandals of Ranga Reddy district. Efforts have been stepped up to recover this and ensure that all Government lands are protected.

The State MIM leader, Mr. Akbaruddin Owaisi, claimed that more than 7,000 acres of land has been grabbed and its current value is Rs 25,000 crore. He wanted to know whether the Government plans to remove the Urban Land Ceiling Act.

IT infrastructure: At a meeting chaired by the State Chief Minister, Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, officials have decided to develop infrastructure covering the outer ring road, townships and areas near the International airport.

According to a statement from the Secretary, IT and Communication, Ms Ratna Prabha, the Government is planning a coordinated effort for the development of infrastructure to support the IT SEZ, Fab City, Hardware park, Hardware SEZ and Gems and Jewellery Park. This calls for a four-lane road from Chandrayanagutta to Hardware Park and Tukkuguda, with a link to outer ring road (ORR). Plans are afoot to strengthen the MMTS project and ensure power supply for these projects.
