Human Resources States - Kerala US Technology on mega talent search Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Feb. 22 THE Technopark-based US Technology International has announced a talent search contest titled `Brains@War' in 80 engineering and MCA colleges in Kerala. To be a recurring annual programme, this will be dovetailed with the IT/BPO player's larger exercise to ramp up headcount 10 times over to 30,000 by the year 2010, Mr Murali Gopalan, Chief Operating Officer, told newspersons here on Tuesday. The company has separately decided to go to some universities in the US to select at least 50 fresh graduates for employment with its Indian facilities. The Brains@War caravan will progressively roll out to Tamil Nadu where the company's Chennai centre will host it. US Technology has recently opened a new centre in Malaysia. Brains@War aims to bring out the talent in the students, and help them equip themselves to do better in career. The student will in turn find that the `lead time' to achieving success has shrunk significantly. The event is part of the company's mission of `transforming lives' in the community in what Mr Gopalan described as a payback gesture. Mr Pradeep Gopi, Head-Strategic Sourcing, said Brains@War would have three rounds - the first two rounds to be hosted in all colleges in the State to be followed by a grand finale at the Technopark campus. To be held in February/March, the contest will see at least 10,000 students participating. Round one will feature all those who fit prescribed criteria match their strengths. In the next, `code busters' from each college will try to `code their way' into the next round. In the third and final round, the best from colleges will battle amongst each other in a mega coding contest. `Brains@War' will put to test problem solving and programming abilities of the contestants. The top 100 students will be mentored by eminent personalities from the industry. Winners will also get cash prizes. US Technology will reserve the right to reward top performers with placements in the company. The rest of those who undergo the mentoring session will have been adequately trained to scale the corporate ladder with their chosen employer.
