UPDATING knowledge in every field is essential especially for professional practice such as chartered accountancy, medicine and legal, according to Mr Justice M. Ramachandran of the Kerala High Court.
Inaugurating the one-day continuous professional education (CPE) conference, organised by the Ernakulam branch of Southern India Regional Council of the ICAI, he pointed out that one has to undergo CPE in certain European countries in order to continue in professional service.
He complimented the institute for the steps taken for organising CPE programmes. "Unless we keep abreast with the latest developments taking place in the profession, we will be failing in giving proper advice," he said.
Mr Tomin J. Thachankary, Managing Director of Kerala Books and Publications Society, who chaired a technical session on Intellectual Property Rights said the issues related to intellectual property laws and rights had assumed greater relevance in the era of globalisation, Internet and e-commerce.

The last session was devoted to highlighting the new initiative of e-governance introduced by the Ministry of Company Affairs known as MCA-21.
