KSRTC strike plan dropped

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Employees of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have called off their plan to go on an indefinite strike from midnight on Wednesday.

This follows an understanding reached after talks held between the Joint Action Council of KSRTC employees and the Transport Minister, Mr N. Sakthan.

The employees have been mainly protesting moves by the State Government to issue permits to private fleet operators in 32 nationalised routes, which have been the exclusive preserve of the public transport utility.

The Minister has given an assurance that privatisation will not be attempted without consulting employees. Their other demands for pay revision and payment of DA arrears will also be taken up for consideration.
