ADIEU, FOR NOW! Migratory birds taking off from Chilika Lake at Satpada in Orissa on their return journey to far-off lands. As many as 143 species visited the lake this winter, while 165 species were sighted the previous year. Bird enumeration was conducted at this largest brackish water lake in the country on January 24 and 25 this year. At the Satpada zone alone, 54,614 birds were noticed. There has been no threat of avian flu in the region till now.
