Chemplast to invest in Mettur plant

Our Bureau

Chennai, Feb. 23

Chemplast Sanmar Ltd intends to convert the manufacturing process at its caustic soda plant in Mettur, from mercury-cells to membrane-based.

The conversion, an environment-friendly measure, which will add no value to the product, will cost the company Rs 80 crore.

In addition, the company proposes to convert its 40 MW furnace oil-fired power plant to coal-based one. This conversion will entail some investments in environment protection and will cost Rs 220 crore, the company has informed the stock exchanges.

"Funding plans, including capital raising if any, for these capital expenditure proposals and the 1,70,000 tpa PVC project at Cuddalore, are under evaluation by the company," the company has said in the notification.
