NRIs to invest in Mangalore

NRIs from coastal Karnataka have agreed in principle to invest around Rs 250 crore in the overall development of Mangalore and its surrounding areas, according to the Mangalore MLA, Mr N. Yogish Bhat.
Speaking to newspersons, he said: "Mr B.R. Shetty, Managing Director of New Medical Centre of Abu Dhabi, and other NRIs have given in-principle promise to invest around Rs 250 crore for the overall development of the region."
Mr Shetty promised to make the investment in the presence of the Chief Minister, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yediyurappa, in Bangalore recently, Mr Bhat added.
The investments will be in tourism, industries, IT, harbour, SEZ, education, and basic infrastructure.
NRIs have also shown interest in the development of Kadri Park, Mangala Stadium, and Wenlock and Lady Goshen hospitals in Mangalore city.
Mr Bhat said that discussions have been held with the IT Secretary, Mr Shankarlinge Gowda, the Tourism Secretary, Mr Yogendra Tripati, and the Industries Secretary, Ms Lakshmi Venkatachala, in this regard.
