Our Bureau

Kottayam , Feb. 23

The rubber prices were steady on Thursday. Traders remained rather inactive, as the overseas futures, particularly Japanese markets, were not encouraging.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed unchanged at Rs 80 at Kottayam, while it moved down to Rs 80 from Rs 80.50 a kg at Kochi on buyer resistance. The supply continued to be low and the transactions were dull.

The rubber futures declined further reacting to the global mood. The March contract was traded at Rs 81.65 (Rs 82.52), April contract at Rs 84.40 (Rs 85.34), May contract at Rs 86.80 (Rs 87.41) and June contract at Rs 88.29 (Rs 88.57) per kg for RSS 4 on NMCE.

The April contract for RSS 4 was weak at Rs 84 against Rs 84.97 a kg on MCX.

The March futures for RSS 3 fell to 240.1 yen (Rs 90.99) from 246.9 yen a kg at TOCOM. But the same grade improved marginally to Rs 91.47 from Rs 91.25 a kg at Bangkok spot.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4 - Rs 80 (Rs 80); RSS-5 - Rs 79.25 (Rs 79.25); ungraded - Rs 78 (Rs 78); ISNR 20 - Rs 79 (Rs 79.00); and latex 60% (per litre) - Rs 57.50 (Rs 57.50).
