Laboratory analysis reports from the National Institute of Virology, Pune has confirmed that there is no presence of avian influenza virus in the first batch of 94 samples taken from the Navapur residents, said a spokesperson of the Maharashtra Government here on Thursday.
Altogether, 202 blood samples and throat swabs from 174 people were taken since the outbreak on February 18. Results from the remaining 108 samples are still awaited.
There are 12 people quarantined in the local hospital and none of them are in a serious condition, said Mr B. Gagrani, spokesperson for the State Government. "The quarantine period for the internal patients is one week. If they are suffering from something, then it will crop up," he said.
However, travel restrictions are now being strictly enforced in the Navapur area.
Trains no longer halt at that Navapur station; the local transport bus stand has been shifted out of Navapur town and the residents are allowed to travel only under extraordinary circumstances. However, the schools are still functioning, said Mr Gagrani.
The State Government workers have almost completely wiped out the chicken population of the infected zone.
Since the outbreak, 2,21,571 birds have been culled, 5,57,000 eggs destroyed and 53 tonnes of chicken feed destroyed.
The Maharashtra Government has deployed 402 workers at the site, he said.
