A book about trees and zodiac signs

The Ecotourism Department of the Government of Kerala has published a book on trees that correspond to various signs of the Kerala zodiac.
Called Stars and Trees: Trees of the Nakshatravanam, the book has been developed by the department in association with the city-based Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute.
The Tourism Minister, Mr K.C. Venugopal, released the book at a function held in the city on Thursday.
According to the traditional system of astrology practised in Kerala, each star or nakshatra in the zodiac is associated with a specific tree, says a press note on the book. These trees are reported to have medicinal, social and aesthetic values.
Written by Dr S. Rajasekharan, Dr N. Mohanan, Dr P.G. Latha, Dr G.M. Nair and Mr K.G. Mohanlal, the book presents the trees associated with each of the 27 signs of the Kerala zodiac.
Besides listing the scientific and vernacular names for every tree, the book also provides information on the medicinal properties of each tree and legends and myths associated with it.
Priced at Rs 250 per copy, the book can be bought from the office of the Thenmala Ecotourism Promotion Society in Thiruvananthapuram.
