Century on major retail expansion drive

Cottons by Century, the retail readymade arm of the diversified BK Birla group and part of Century Textiles & Industries Ltd, has embarked on a major retail expansion.

It expects to add about 1,50,000 sq ft of retail area spread out in some 70 new stores next year.

The National Retail and Marketing Head, Century Apparel Division, Mr Mahendra Padhy, said that the Indian tastes were gradually changing with increasing number of people taking to cotton apparel even for office wear. Given this trend, the company plans to add about 70 more stores next year.

After inaugurating their second store here, Mr Padhy told Business Line "Century has a strong history of success in textiles and readymade garments was a logical step forward. In less than one and a half year, the company has increased its presence with over 38 stores spread in about 1,50,000 sq ft area. And the company plans to add about 70-80 stores next fiscal."
