New Projects States - Tamil Nadu US co opens innovation Chennai centre Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 24 Athenahealth, a US-based company that provides online revenue cycle management services for medical practices, has opened a corporate innovation centre in Chennai to enhance business process outsourcing capabilities through developing related software, according to Mr Jonathan Bush, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. With an investment of about $5 lakh going into the centre, the company is looking to recruit 50 people, including 20 software developers and 20 analysts. The centre is expected to add software development and process engineering positions, as well as take ownership of both the outsourcing relationship and underlying technologies. The company currently has a contract with Perot Systems for over four years, with 300 employees working on converting insurance related documents into electronic form. The company will look to expand to about 500 people within a year, he said. Speaking about the addressable market, Mr Bush explained that about 95 per cent of medical bills in the US are paid either by the government or by insurance companies, so Athenahealth acts as a connecting link between insurance companies and physicians. He said that of the 6 lakh physicians in US, Athenahealth was catering to over 6,900 physicians, collecting $1.6 billion on behalf of its clients annually, out of a total collection of about $600 billion.
