Mangalore region excise revenue up by Rs 1,204 cr

The Mangalore Commissionerate of Central Excise collected revenue of Rs 3,008.48 crore till the end of January during the current financial year, showing an increase of Rs 1,204.19 crore over the corresponding period of the previous year.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Dr John Joseph, Commissioner of Central Excise, Mangalore Commissionerate, said that the major revenue comes from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), contributing 93 per cent of the total revenue of the commissionerate.

While the Central Excise revenue collection registered a growth of 11 per cent on an all-India basis during the current fiscal, the growth rate at Mangalore commissionerate stood at 66.74 per cent.

Stating that the commissionerate has a separate division for handling service tax matters, he said the service tax revenue for the current fiscal, up to January, has recorded a growth of 50 per cent over the previous year.
