Thiruvananthapuram , Feb. 26

The State Government is supporting a proposal to set up three units to manufacture `Neera', a coconut water-based soft drink, said the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy.

Addressing a press conference in the city, he said the three units would be set up on an experimental basis as part of the State Government's `Kerala Vision 2010' initiative. More units to manufacture `Neera' would be set up based on the performance of the three pilot units, he added.

Similarly, the Government is also studying a proposal to make bio-fuel from tapioca using technology developed by the city-based Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, he said.

An amount of Rs 40 crore has been set aside for various `Vision 2010' proposals before the end of March this year, he added.

Meanwhile, the State Government has decided to send an all-party delegation to New Delhi to express Kerala's disappointment with the Railway Budget, Mr Chandy said. The State's demands were presented in a detailed memorandum submitted to the Centre.
