Events States - Andhra Pradesh Science fair to begin in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 26 In an effort to infuse the excitement of science among school children, the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here has taken up a new initiative for State schools. . In the science fair called "Ignited Minds', it proposes to organise on February 28, commemorating the National Science Day, it has decided to award the winners with a week's stay and interaction with the scientists at the Institute.
SCIENCE PROMOS
At the national level, the Council of Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR), of which IICT is a constituent lab, has put in place several schemes to attract brilliant students to a career in science and technology at the post-graduate and research stage. In recent times it has taken steps to promote learning of science in schools, by inviting teachers and students to spend time at the national laboratories, spread across the country. The former Secretary, Department of Ocean Development (DoD), Dr Harsh K. Gupta, would inaugurate the Science Fair to be held at the IICT-Zaheer Memorial School. The Zaheer Memorial School would have a Dr A.V. Rama Rao, Science Musuem. It has already had the privilege of having Nobel laureates, Prof. Barry Sharpless, Prof. Tanaka and Prof. Robert Grubbs talking to them. Similarly, well-known Indian scientists such as Dr R.A. Mashelkar and Prof. M.S. Swaminathan have interacted with the students.
