NMP handles record coal

Mangalore, Feb. 26

A record quantity of 19,390 tonnes of coal was unloaded from m.v. Dubai Ambassador at New Mangalore Port on February 24.

A press release by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here on Saturday that this is the highest quantity of coal handled at the port in a day, surpassing the earlier record of 17,828 tonnes handled on August 24, 2005.

The cargo was handled at the new deep-draft multipurpose general cargo berth. Davanagere Sugars, Shamnur Sugars Pvt Ltd and Coastal Energy Pvt Ltd are the importers of the above consignment. HML Agency is C&F agent and stevedore, the release said.

The Chairman of NMPT, Mr P. Tamilvanan, and the Deputy Chairman, Mr M.A. Bhaskarachar, have appreciated the efforts made by the above agencies, port employees and cargo-handling workers for the achievement.
