Rubber rises on better quotes

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Feb. 27

Spot rubber rates improved on Monday. Covering groups continued to offer better quotes though the international markets were in a mixed mood as TOCOM ended slightly weak in the near months.

The presence of north Indian buyers was also felt in the marketing centres but major manufactures were not active.

Most of the sellers kept a low profile as the domestic sentiments were positive. Sheet rubber moved upto Rs 81 and Rs 81.50 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi from Rs 80.50 a kg on Saturday.

FUTURES STEADY

The rubber futures maintained an almost steady trend on NMCE. The March contract was quoted at Rs 82.71 (Rs 82.55), April contract at Rs 85.38 (Rs 85.20), May contract at Rs 88.00 (Rs 87.71) and June contract at Rs 89.08 (Rs 88.97) per kg for RSS 4.

The April contract for RSS 4 firmed up to Rs 85.50 from Rs 84.78 a kg on MCX.

RSS 3 closed at Rs 92.66 against Rs 90.85 a kg at Bangkok Spot. The March futures for RSS 3 declined to 247.3 Yen (Rs 94.56) from 248.5 Yen a kg at TOCOM.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4:Rs 81 (Rs 80.50); RSS-5:Rs 80 (Rs 79.50); ungraded: Rs 78.50 (Rs 78); ISNR 20: Rs 80 (Rs 79.25); and latex 60 per cent (a litre): Rs 58 (Rs 57.50).
