The US and India today agreed to jointly work to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS, by exploring all possible avenues, including expediting drug approval process at the US FDA and strengthening bilateral co-operation, to fight the disease globally.
The two countries have agreed that participation by the corporate sector would help combating the disease and hence a joint Indo-US corporate fund would be set up.
According to the Indo-US Joint statement issued after talks between the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and the US President, Mr George W. Bush, said, the two nations agreed to strengthen virtual coordination and information centres set up last year and hold a bilateral meeting soon to develop a practical programme for utilisation of its services. Mr Bush announced a contribution of $7 million and this would be managed by GIVE Foundation and ICICI Bank.
