Chennai , March 2

Fresh and Honest Café, the Sterling Infotech-owned company that runs a chain of coffee vending machines across the country, has made its first entrance into the retail market with its own brand of coffee powder, `Alive!' which is a 70-30 mix of coffee and chicory.

Mr R. Shivashankar, Chief Executive Officer, Fresh and Honest Café, told a press conference that the product would be launched in South India first, since the South constitutes about 90 per cent of the market for coffee powder. He said the company would spend about Rs 2 crore in the first two months of operation, which will go into advertising on the major channels, radio spots and press.

The organised packaged coffee segment stands at a little over 10,000 tonnes of coffee sold per annum, he said, and the company expects to corner about 10 per cent of the market in the first year.

The coffee will be ground in the company's facility at Porur, which has a grinding capacity of 200 tonnes per month, while the coffee beans will be sourced from Karnataka. The coffee is priced at Rs 9 for a 50-gm pack, Rs 17.50 for a 100-gm pack.
