Bangalore , March 3

UTi Worldwide India plans to intensify its focus on the market with more specialised services to meet the specific needs of its customers. The global logistics and supply chain management company, which began its operation in 1999, has already gained a 9.4 per cent market share in airfreight handling. It hopes to grow its business by inducting more IT applications for value-added services. India's potential to emerge as a major manufacturing hub has also enhanced the prospects of logistics industry whose consolidation in the highly fragmented sector offered better opportunities, said Mr M.J. Wessels, Deputy Chairman, UTi Worldwide Inc.

He said that though UTi was a non-asset based logistics services provider, its increasing share in the market and partnerships with transportation and warehouse facilities providers had given it a strong buying power to extend competitive pricing on its products.

Mr Wessels, who was here on a brief visit, said UTi India had expanded the range of its services from mere freight forwarding transactions with propriety IT solutions.

The company's focus on Indian market would be intensified as Mr Wessels said, "we are not blind not to see India's fast growth".
