Mumbai , March 3

Mr Sabeer Bhatia, best known as the founder of Hotmail, is in the country again, this time to announce the world release of a Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) software from VoiFi Technologies Corp, one of the five new companies that he has founded.

When asked why the world release of the software happening in India? "Because India is the prime market for it," he said.

VoiFi allows peer-to-peer telephony (such as voice chat on desktops) and instant messaging. Many others such as Yahoo!, Google and Skype offer this, admits Mr Bhatia. However, VoiFi offers a gaming platform, he said. One of the chief attractions for India would be VoiFi's offer of Teen Patti (commonly referred to as Indian poker). There are other games such as War Zone, Snake and Ladders and so on.

VoiFi can be downloaded free for peer-to-peer voice exchange (read desktop to desktop). "For the first year, we are not even concerned about revenues. We want to seed as many clients as possible."

VoiFi is entirely developed from the company's 25 employees located here. Mr Bhatia plans to expand his companies' presence in Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune.

Mr Bhatia is betting big on the Internet. "What are the gaps in the Internet space and how can I plug these gaps," is what Mr Bhatia says he asks himself.
