Poultry prices may rise

Our Bureau

Chennai , March 3

The poultry trade in Tamil Nadu is on the recovery path after the bird flu in Maharashtra hit sales across the country.

According to Mr Mohan Reddy, Chairman, National Egg Coordination Committee, Chennai Zone, egg prices are up by 15 paise from Friday.

The National Egg Coordination Committee has set the egg price in the Chennai Zone, which covers the northern portion of Tamil Nadu and the adjoining districts of Nellore, at 85 paise against Thursday's 70 paise. In Namakkal the prices are up to 65 paise from 50 paise.

Mr Mohan Reddy said the price trend will sustain with the off take in the market improving.

According to broiler industry sources, the trend is similar.

Over the last two days broiler market has picked up and the price ranges around Rs 23-24 per kg live weight. By the weekend the prices are expected to range around Rs 30, say traders.

The market appears to have got out of the panic mode thanks to the repeated message and assurance from the Government and the promotional activities, say the traders.
