Coimbatore, March 3

The upgradation of Avanashi road for a stretch of 16 km from the heart of Coimbatore city to the Nilambur by-pass road has been included in the Centrally-funded National Urban Renewal Mission (NURM) project proposals by the State Government.

The project cost, now estimated to be around Rs 110 crore, may have to be revised upwards to Rs 150 crore when the detailed project report (DPR) is finalised, according to Mr Rohit Modi, Chief Executive Officer, Tamil Nadu Road Development Company Ltd (TNRDC).

Speaking at a function to release the CII-TNRDC feasibility report, he said the project could be executed by forming a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and a task force with representatives from government, CII and TNRDC to oversee its implementation.
