US may lift ban on Indian mangoes

New Delhi , March 3

Indicating that the ban on Indian mangoes would be lifted in due course, the US President, Mr George W. Bush, said at a joint press conference, that "the US is looking forward to eating Indian mangoes." At present, there is a ban on mangoes from India.

India and the US sought to expand co-operation in agriculture by endorsing an agreed workplan to promote bilateral trade through agreements that lay out a path to open the US market to Indian mangoes, recognise India as having the authority to certify that shipments of Indian products to the US meet USDA (US Department of Agriculture) organic standards.
