Stock Markets Columns - Chat Zeal is a volcano
Reading `breaking news', Khan wondered who could be Warren Buffett's successor. Dakshinarmoorthy was running a fine-toothed comb over the Finance Bill, 2006. Sridevi was reading a book on trading techniques. Jogin alerted them all about the weekly market chat, by messaging: `Chat-boot-three'.
Jog: Hi, all! Chart patterns suggest further up trend. Kay: Also, possibility of a new peak. Sri: "Zeal is a volcano, the peak of which the grass of indecisiveness does not grow," says Kahlil Gibran. Dax: Market seemed to have lost some steam on Friday. Sri: FII flows continue to provide strong fillip to markets. Dax: Most of the players are extremely cautious at these levels. Kay: Sharp correction is unlikely. IMHO (In my humble opinion)! Sri: How was the performance last week? Jog: I have the numbers. Liberty Shoes gained 9 per cent last Monday. SREI Infra was up about 8 per cent and Areva earned a profit of around 7 per cent on Feb 27. Dax: What followed were Jain Irrig with 6, and IVRCL Infras with 5, a day before the Budget. Kay: Zee Tele and Sintex Ind went up almost 3 per cent, while Kirl Bros made a gain of about 2 per cent on the first day of last week. Sri: CESC, Garware Ship, NTPC, Wockhardt and Thomas Cook ended that day on a positive note. Dax: This week, I expect Bharti to move up if... Kay: Reliance Communications lists at more than expected price. Jog: Bharti is an obvious choice for someone who is trying to make a list of stocks that have spurted suddenly! Sri: Scaled past Rs 400. Was at Rs 360-370 just the other day. Kay: Is there a greater force at work here? Jog: "Forces strong... soldiers confident," as in King John! Dax: My broker recommends Sterlite and Hotel Leela. Jog: Century Textiles had a great run last week! Kay: Expect it to continue this week too, with a target of 410. Sri: Also check out Sona Steering (target 96) and Vimta Labs (target 225). Kay: Heard day-traders are freaking out on Educomp! Sri: "It's okay to be a freak," says Lisa Bonet. Dax: A friend says Eastern Silk Industries could touch Rs 508 this month. Kay: If you know maths, do your homework! Too unrealistic! Jog: L&T could show further gains on the back of news of order flows. Sri: Century Ply may rule firm on the back of merger news. Kay: Watching Indraprastha Gas. Hovering at Rs 138 or so for the past few days. Dax: Has shown strength of late. Witness Rs 145 level that it reached not long ago. Sri: Apollo Hospital rather subdued these days? At about Rs 530 at the moment. Jog: Engineering, cement and auto stocks are the main drivers. Kay: Software may also join the party this week. Sri: Ruchi Soya would prove to be a good investment in the long term. Jog: Heard Spentex will rally up. Herbertsons going strong; stronger likely! Dax: NTPC showing interest in nuclear foray. Good news for investors. Sri: Also Reliance Energy? Dax: "There are times when fear is good. It must keep its watchful place at the heart's controls," cautions Aeschylus. Bye! Lee, with inputs from Nat, Mad, Nil, Bij, Ala, The and Sve. Send in your views to: Chat@TheHindu.co.in.
